So I learned about a new dessert today (thanks, NPR): Falooda. It's a cold dessert with roots in and around India in addition to Myanmar/Burma and I'm sure other parts of Asia, as well.
Guess what? Gelatin is often involved. Who knew? Not me.
Traditionally the dessert involves rose syrup (yum), vermicelli noodles (ok), basil seeds (interesting), and some kind of tapioca pearl or gelatin cube (sold).
Apparently there's a hip, Burmese mother/daughter place called Toli Moli in Washington D.C. but I'm pretty darn sure I can find it here. In fact, I'm positive.
I feel a field trip coming on. Who wants to join me?
