Right? Nothing in there about what that looks like or how it feels or sounds. No prerequisites, no gender, no style, no formula. That doesn't mean it's easy. Far from it, in fact. But, like anything, it's a thing you have to learn, work at, improve on.
MBA programs are full of people who fancy themselves leaders. Chock full. And I do believe that many of us know a good leader when we see one. But I really don't think many of us know exactly why or how to be one ourselves.
I just began a year-long leadership development program with fifty of my classmates and I can already tell it's going to be a tough one. There's no hiding. You bring it all to the mat or you'll waste your own and everyone else's time.
So here's to a new development path that (mercifully) doesn't involve amortization or discounting cash flows. Let's do it.
